Your Eye Health

Good eyesight is important in being able to carry out normal activities. Poor eyesight impacts a person's quality of life and has ramifications for family and the wider community. 

Many eye conditions can be dealt with by the prescription of spectacles, but many others cause irreversible vision loss if not detected and treated early. 

Centre for Eye Health works with your eye-health practitioner (such as an optometrist or  ophthalmologist) to check for a range of eye conditions that cannot be corrected through the prescription of spectacles, contact lenses or refractive surgery. These conditions include:

• Age-Related Macular Degeneration
• Glaucoma
• Eye conditions related to diabetes
• Eye manifestations of general conditions such as high blood pressure
• Cataracts
• Retinal or optic-nerve diseases
• Diseases affecting the cornea

If you are concerned about your vision, CFEH recommends:

• You visit your local eye-health practitioner, or contact the Optometry Clinic at the UNSW School of Optometry and Vision Science on 02 9385 4624 to make an appointment for an eye examination.
• If you have had an eye examination within the past two years, consult with your eye-health practitioner to determine if any additional testing is required.

Thanks to the generosity of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, who are committed to helping people at all stages of their journey through life with eye disease, these services are offered free-of charge at CFEH.
